Made in the U.S.A.

Montague has been a part of California history dating back to the turbulent times of the gold rush, statehood, and the breakout of the U.S. Civil War. The company has resided in the San Francisco Bay Area for well over 150 years and while evolving as a business, arising out of the Great Depression of the 1930’s through three generations of ownership and management by the Whalen Family, has a proud tradition of pride and passion for producing the finest quality products in the foodservice industry.

Over the past fifteen to twenty years, as the US manufacturing base moved towards outsourcing and establishing overseas operations Montague has remained committed to keeping all facets of operations in California and the San Francisco Bay Area recognizing the greatest asset of the  Company are its employees followed by location and quality of life offered in the San Francisco Bay Area. This commitment challenges the cost structure of products produced placing Montague at a competitive disadvantage when compared to manufacturers both foreign and domestic who have relocated to manufacturing sites both inside and outside the borders of the United States seeking the attractive benefits of lower energy, wage and benefit costs, with reduced government regulation,

taxation, and oversight. Montague’s consistent culture and management coupled with a long history of tribal knowledge counters these competitive disadvantages with a strategy of creative innovation focused on listening to our customers first while remaining flexible and adaptive to meet their needs. Maintaining a skilled and talented workforce to produce the finest quality products while continuing investment in new and custom product R&D, flexible manufacturing and automation technologies are all key elements to Montague remaining competitive whereas many of our competitors have sought the path of low cost manufacturing and product commodization.

All Montague products are designed, engineered, and manufactured in our facility located in Hayward, California, USA. Due to the decline in the US manufacturing base not all materials required to make our products are available in the United States and by default must be sourced overseas. This percentage remains relatively minimal as we strive to maintain control of quality, delivery and cost of materials. Montague products meet the US government standard for product labeling “Made in the U.S.A” exceeding the threshold requirement of 75% with total cost of product ranging between 80 to 85%. As a third generation American business owner, I believe in the American spirit of innovation, capitalism, and free enterprise, and proud to say Montague products are “Made in the U.S.A”.
